Breath regulation should be applied on the foundation of a properly posed and naturally relaxed body and a quiet and peaceful mind. After sufficient practice, the body, qi and spirit will be in harmony.
Once this happens, the breath will naturally achieve the desired qualities.
By exhaling the used and inhaling the fresh, breath regulation refreshes the body. Breath regulation promotes the circulation of qi and blood. Therefore, breathing exercises promote the generation and development of qi within the body and the circulation and distribution of blood throughout the body.
Modern medical research indicates that frequent deep breathing exercises can increase the flexibility of the diaphragm muscle as well as promote the function of the internal organs, including the stomach and intestines.
