A “super snow moon,” The biggest and brightest full moon of the year will light up the skies on Tuesday, on 19 / 02 /2019.
The moon will appear particularly large when it is close to the horizon thanks to an optical illusion known as “the moon illusion.”
'When a full moon appears at perigee [its closest point to Earth] it is slightly brighter and larger than a regular full moon—and that's where we get a "supermoon,"' NASA explains on their website.
At Full Moon, the entire face of the Moon is illuminated by the Sun's rays and it can be bright enough to light up otherwise dark nights.
Technically, this primary Moon phase only lasts a moment, the instant when the Sun and the Moon are aligned on opposite sides of Earth (see illustration). So the exact time for Full Moon is during the day on parts of the planet.
However, the Moon can appear to be full a day before or after while more than 98% of the Moon's disc is illuminated.
Therefore, it can be difficult to tell the difference between a Full Moon and the last stage of a Waxing Gibbous Moon ;or the beginning of a Waning Gibbous Moon.~
What is a Supermoon? What is the Supermoon and the Micromoon?
The point of the Moon's orbit closest to Earth is called perigee and the point farthest away is known as apogee. When the Full Moon comes close to the perigee, it is known as a Supermoon or Super Full Moon.
When a Full Moon is close to the apogee, it is called a Micromoon.
A super moon is when you see a full moon, but not every full moon is a super moon. For a moon to be called a SUPER MOON, it needs to be closest to the Earth.
The term SUPER MOON and its meaning was given by an astrologer known by the name Richard Nolle, 30 years ago.
When the moon is about 6% closer to the Earth than usual, the moon is called a Super Moon. It may sound rather odd, but it happens several times in a regular year. It is not noticeable to the naked eye as these small changes are very small to be realized.
- Supermoon: A Full or New Moon that occurs when the center of the Moon is less than 360,000 kilometers (ca. 223,694 miles) from the center of Earth.
- Micromoon: A Full Moon or New Moon that takes place when the center of the Moon is farther than 405,000 kilometers (ca. 251,655 miles) from the center of Earth.~
February 19's full moon is the second lunar spectacle in a supermoon trilogy.
The Esoteric:
Super Moon Gravitational Pull
There is a legend that goes along with the Super Moon event where earthquakes, volcanoes erupting and general human mayhem happens. Astrologer Richard Noelle put forth that Idea about 30 years ago; he wrote about the Super Moon legend: “Super Moons are noteworthy for their close association with extreme tidal forces working in what astrologers of old used to call the sublunary world: the atmosphere, crust and oceans of our home planet – including ourselves, of course.”
Noelle referenced the spiritual transformation this Super Moon can represent – and present to us for reflection. The universal healing forces of Virgo and Pisces are the spiritual energies present during this Super Moon. These two energies combined, according to astrologers, is about being called to a service higher than the Self. This is a time to make a commitment to devoting your personal energies to the highest Good, along with humility and surrender of the ego to Spirit.
The cosmos are a reflection of ourselves on a much larger scale.. The planetary body has an atmosphere and so do we. On a spiritual level, with the super moon, it is a time to detox the air (your thoughts), water (your emotions), earth (your physical space) and fire (obstacles to living your life with passion). In short, this is a special time to get spiritually stronger and meet the intensity of this moment during the Super Moon.
The Moon represents our instinct on a spiritual level. The Super Moon is considered special in spiritual belief systems. This Super Moon is happening in the constellation Virgo presenting a need for healing by breaking through.
Envision the Super Moon as a healing presence in your life to help you make the necessary adaptations and adjustments. It can create a cosmic alignment to your path of life service, and even present a few personal miracles! So, “go with the flow,” allow the crust of old wounds to break away. Enjoy the new healing as it emerges to help you walk your spiritual path, and unleash a renewed and stronger person. ~

Seven spiritual supermoon rituals
The widely-used term supermoon came from Richard Noelle, an astrologist, over 30 years ago. In the scientific community, it’s also called a perigee moon. What it means is that the distance in the moon’s orbit when it passes to Earth is at its closest point, bringing the moon about 50,000 km closer than at apogee, when the moon passes furthest from Earth. Visually, the moon looks closer to 20 percent larger and will have a strong effect on tides.
On the spiritual side, a full moon is held to be a powerful time for meditation, energy healing and recharging human energy field and chakras. It’s a time-honored tradition, tracing back to many ancient cultures that used rituals and ceremonies taking place during full moons. It’s thought that the full moon shines down so much pure energy, anything it touches is imbued with incredible radiance and love. Thereby, it stands to reason that the supermoon effect amplifies that power and makes it even stronger.
Energy healing during this potent time can bring about mind-blowing results. The unbeatable illumination the supermoon provides is not only physical, but on the soul level as well, lighting up corners of the subconscious and giving those who access it insights into their emotions, their souls and their paths, so you’ll
definitely want to take advantage of the last supermoon of the year by trying these seven rituals:
1. Write down your dreams
According to astrology, this full moon is highly associated with Pisces, a very dreamy sign.
2. Try a manifesting ritual
3. Charging your crystals
Charging Crystals is easy. Simply, gather up your crystals and gemstones; the power of the supermoon light is something you don’t want them to miss! All you need to do is place your stone collection outside or in the moonlight inside overnight after telling them that they will absorb the energy of the supermoon. Bring them back inside or out of the lighted area just before dawn.
4. Moonbathing
Don’t worry, you don’t have to scare your neighbors by baring it all outside! You can be clothed for this; it’s not a literal bath, necessarily. The supermoon moonlight is cleansing to your mind, body, and spirit so spending time under its vibrant white glow is like a soothing bath sans water.
5. Bless others with healing white light
6. Connect with your spirit guides
7. Heal your emotions
This is also a good time to sweep out negative emotions. The supermoon light will be so strong tonight, it will be hard for darkness to stand up in the face of its glory. ~Please visit the original website for information.
Below is a very basic how-to, when it comes to cleansing your crystals with the Full Moon.
1. Collect your crystals together, take them outside in the moonlight and lay them out. You may even like to do a crystal grid with them when you lay them out. ( You can learn more about crystal grids here.) Ideally, they should be placed on the earth or a natural surface. Crystals like to be earthed or grounded, just like our bodies do. If you don't have access to some earth or lawn to place them on, you can also just place them on a windowsill or on a natural surface like a wooden plate, on a balcony. The important part is that they are in the moonlight.
2. If you can, leave your crystals out overnight and collect them in the morning. Some people also like to let their crystals have some time in the Sunlight and leave their crystals out for 24 hours. Some crystals don't like too much sunlight though, so be careful when doing this. And if its not safe or possible for you to leave your crystals out all night, that's OK. Just leave them out for a long as possible.
3. It's important to charge your crystals with your intentions. What would you like your crystals to support you in? Maybe there is a goal that you have for the upcoming month? As always, try to focus on a need vs a want when you set your intentions. It can really be anything that you feel you need. You may like to say these intentions aloud or write them on a piece of paper, do what ever feels right for you.
4. The final step is to make sure that you give thanks. It's important to express your gratitude to your crystals, the Universal Energy, God, or whatever your higher power may be.
It's important to note that clouds do not effect the moon's energy. So if its overcast or raining, you can still cleanse your crystals with the Full Moon's energy. Just make sure that you put out crystals that are OK to come in contact with water. For example, keep Selenite and Malachite inside because the rain will damage them. Crystals like the Quartz family, and most tumble stones are all safe to be outside in the rain. In fact, the rain and water will help cleanse them too.
It's a Full Moon tonight, so collect up your beautiful crystals and give them a cleanse! ~
Happy Full Moon!
